Default Baden-Clay mystery mobilised police force

THERE was something about the disappearance of Allison Baden-Clay that made police take immediate action.

THERE was something about the disappearance of Allison Baden-Clay that made Queensland police mobilise a substantial force to the leafy hamlet of Brookfield within hours of her husband's call.

She was, they insisted, a missing person and nothing more, reported The Courier-Mail.

But residents of Brookfield, 13km west of Brisbane, would be canvassed several times that day as police began what would become a week-long ground and air search to find missing mum Allison Baden-Clay.

Both Gerard Baden-Clay and Allison are high achievers with years of career progression behind them.

She a dancer, fluent in six languages who rose through the ranks of Flight Centre to become a national HR manager. And he, an accountant by profession, who worked his way to becoming one of Brisbane's most prominent real estate identities.

But at 10pm on April 19 - Mr Baden-Clay would tell police - his wife, 43, wearing running shoes, grey tracksuit pants and a black jumper, walked from their house into the pitch black of Brookfield Rd to walk her usual trail.

It was that outfit police yesterday replicated on a mannequin they placed outside the Baden-Clay home in the hope of finding someone who had seen her walking.

The Courier-Mail understands a frantic Mr Baden-Clay rang and sent text messages to several people asking if they'd heard from his wife after she failed to return home on Thursday night. Eventually, he went to bed alone.
