Default Body found near Sydney lookout

A man's body has been found near a lookout in Sydney's west this morning, police say.

Passersby found the body on a walking track near the Shortland Brush Lookout, Lansdowne, about 8.50am, a NSW Police spokesman said.

The lookout is in Mirambeena Regional Park.

Officers from Bankstown Local Area Command have set up a crime scene and are investigating the man's death.

Police say it is too early to say whether the death is considered suspicious.

Homicide Squad detectives are appealing for information into the ‘execution-style’ shooting of a man in Sydney’s south-west this week.

The body of Momtaz Kabbout, aged 46, was located by a passer-by in bushland off Henry Lawson Drive at Lansdowne about 8.50am on Tuesday 3 July 2012.

The 46-year-old father of three from West Fairfield had been shot a number of times in what police are describing as an ‘execution-style’ shooting.

Strike Force Tigg, led by the Homicide Squad with the assistance of Bankstown Local Area Command, has been formed to investigate the death, and detectives are now working to piece together the events that led to Mr Kabbout’s death.

“We are appealing for anyone who has information about the shooting or why Mr Kabbout would have been targeted in this way to come forward,” Detective Superintendent Willing said.

“Inquiries so far by detectives have found Mr Kabbout was not known to police and has no known links with any criminal identities.

“Speculation had been raised that Mr Kabbout was the victim of a gay hate crime, but there is no evidence to suggest this.

“Mr Kabbout was a married father of three with a successful driving instruction business and detectives have not yet been able to determine why he was shot in what was clearly a targeted attack.”

Detective Superintendent Willing said detectives believed Mr Kabbout was shot at Lansdowne up to eight hours before his body was found.

They are appealing for anyone with information about the death to come forward, as well as anyone who saw Mr Kabbout late on Monday night or in the early hours of Tuesday.

Mr Kabbout is described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, about 166 cm tall with a slim build and greying hair. At the time of his death he was wearing dark-coloured tracksuit pants, a dark-coloured shirt with a dark-coloured jacket over the top and light-coloured joggers.

Anyone who can assist police should contact Strike Force Tigg detectives via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

That is so tragic. I hope those responsible are caught & arrested soon. Aren't all crimes related to hate?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, it is much better to express yourself in a respectful manner. In other words, treat others the way you would like to be treated.
