Default Characteristics of a psychopath/serial killer

A psychopath will use people for excitement, to build their self-esteem and they invariably value people in terms of their material value (money, property, comfort, etc..). To date there is no checklist of behavior and symptoms that will tell you with certainty whether or not a person is a psychopath. But there are warning signs.

    Characteristics of a Psychopath

superficial charm, self-centered & self-important, need for stimulation & prone to boredom, deceptive behavior & lying, conning & manipulative, little remorse or guilt, shallow emotional response, callous with a lack of empathy, living off others & predatory, poor self-control, promiscuous sexual behavior, early behavioral problems, lack of realistic long term goals, impulsive lifestyle, irresponsible behavior, blaming others for their actions, short term relationships, juvenile delinquency, breaking parole or probation , varied criminal activity,

The idea that psychopaths eat people is a myth. In reality, a person with a psychopathic personality can lead what appears to be an ordinary life. They can have jobs, get married and they can break the law like anyone else. But their jobs and marriages usually donít last and their life is usually on the verge of personal chaos. A psychopath is usually a manipulator. They do this by playing to the emotions of others. They typically have high verbal intelligence, but they lack what is commonly referred to as "emotional intelligence". There is always a shallow quality to the emotional aspect of their stories. In particular they have difficulty describing how they felt, why they felt that way, or how others may have felt and why. Psychopaths with low intelligence or a poor education seem to end up in jail more than ones with a higher education. The lack of emotional insight is the first good sign you may be involved with a psychopath. The second best sign is a history of criminal behavior in which a person does not seem to learn from their experience, but merely thinks about ways to not get caught. So what happens to these poor kids if they donít learn right from wrong? Parents with a child like this usually end up angry and frustrated. The child is always in trouble and doesnít seem to learn. In a case like this, many parents resort topunishment. But what these children need is guidance, instruction, training, choices, consequences and supervision. Severe and repeated punishment alone is the worst thing you can do. Letting a child like this run around unsupervised with violent and antisocial children is almost as bad. And child abuse is a sure way to create a social misfit or a monster. There is a growing discussion among researchers to suggest there may be a genetic influence that creates a psychopathic personality. Some sociologists believe that a sexually promiscuous psychopath who can live off others is a survivor and may represent one of many genes for survival in the human species. Even more surprising has been the observation that many adult psychopaths do not seem to benefit from traditional counseling or therapy and may in fact commit crimes again and sooner because of it. Research using brain scanning technology has revealed that the brain of a psychopath functions and processes information differently.

    Characteristics of a serial killer

    Personality Traits

*White male between 25 and 35 years old.
*Can be of high income or low income.
    *Average to high intelligence.
*Usually married with children and has a career.

    Victim Characteristics

*Serial killers enjoy extending the suffering of their victims. They get a lot of power by determining whether their victim will live or die. They may torture their victim for several days to obtain as much pleasure as possible.
*Victims of serial killers have no profile. Most victims are chosen at random, just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Some serial killers have a preference for their victims, choosing to eliminate a certain group of people (prostitutes, young women, children, etc.).
*Unlike mass murderers, serial killers select the victim. The killer will fantasize about the murder until the fantasy is no longer enough to bring about pleasure, and he must commit the crime. The serial killer will survey the location, and take every precaution to not get caught. Then they seek out the victim and murder them.
*Serial killers are seeking an object or prop to victimize, not a partner. Jeffrey Dahmer was searching for a living, breathing zombie who would do whatever he wanted and would never refuse or leave. The victims share personality .

    Cruelty to Animals

The FBI has found that a history of cruelty to animals is one of the traits that regularly appear in its computer records of serial rapists and murderers, and the standard diagnostic and treatment manual for psychiatric and emotional disorders lists cruelty to animals as a diagnostic criterion for conduct disorders.

Studies have shown that violent and aggressive criminals are more likely to have abused animals as children than criminals considered non-aggressive. A survey of psychiatric patients who had repeatedly tortured dogs and cats found that all of them had high levels of aggression toward people as well, including one patient who had murdered a boy. To researchers, a fascination with cruelty to animals is a red flag in the lives of serial rapists and killers.

Says Robert Ressler, founder of the FBIís behavioral sciences unit, "These are the kids who never learned itís wrong to poke out a puppyís eyes."

My first look at my newborn son...
When I am cold and dead...
All these memories will be gone...

Default Re: Characteristics of a psychopath/serial killer

I don't agree that a psychopath is the type of person who would use people for monetary gain. I feel that most of the people I've come in contact with in society are the type of people who use people for gain. Don't you notice that most people want something from you? I don't think those people are even capable of being psychopaths. You also said that psychopaths can't hold down jobs; the BTK Killer worked for the US census department and David Berkowitz also worked for the government for the postal service. No one was even suspicious. Dennis Raider also was involved with his church, explain that... You also say serial killers are of average or high intelligence, I would say high intelligence. Ted Bundy went to law school at Harvard and he also studied Psychology.
