With a new private attorney by his side, murder suspect Joran Van der Sloot has retracted his confession and refused to discuss the details with the judge assigned to the case.

Van der Sloot said the Peruvian police tricked him into confessing by telling him he would be returned to The Netherlands.

Peruvian police say they found a small amount of skin underneath the fingernails of a 21-year-old student that Joran van der Sloot is accused of killing. Tests have not yes been completed, police say.

A federal grand jury in the United States has indicted Joran Van der Sloot for wire fraud and extortion charges in connection with his attempt to sell information about the location of Natalee Holloway's remains in exchange for $250,000. The indictment said that Van der Sloot tried to exploit "Beth Holloway's fear that she would never find her daughter's body or know what happened to her."

The Dutch man being held in Peru for the murder of a young woman has admitted to a newspaper in The Netherlands that he extorted money from the family of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway. Joran Van der Sloot told De Telegraaf that he extorted the money to get back at the Holloways for making his life miserable for five years.
