Charges over murdered teacher accusations

Police on the New South Wales central coast have charged a man with making false accusations about a high school teacher who was later found murdered.

Detectives say two weeks before the body of 46-year-old Amanda Carter was discovered in her Woongarrah home in May, three anonymous letters about her were sent to newspapers and the high school where she taught.

It is believed the letters made unfounded claims that Ms Carter had been having an affair with a student.

This morning police arrested a 60-year-old Bonnells Bay man and charged him with making a false accusation with intent.

Police have renewed their appeal for anyone with information about Ms Carter's death to come forward.
