Default Parolee trying to elude police strikes another vehicle; two killed

MONTCLAIR - A 26-year-old parolee who led police on a short chase that caused the deaths of a San Bernardino man and a Yucaipa teen on Saturday was in jail Sunday facing multiple felony charges.

A short pursuit ended in Montclair where the suspect's car collided with a Ford Countour driven by Jose Gilbert Garcia, 42, of San Bernardino, at the intersection of Central Avenue and Orchard Street. Garcia was with his 16-year-old nephew Luis Alberto Garcia of Yucaipa at the time of the collision.

The suspect's vehicle was traveling west on Orchard Street when he entered the intersection and struck Garcia's Contour.

Montclair police Sgt. Ronny Cespedes said Lazalde suffered only a minor injury. He did not resist Ontario officers upon arrest.

"That accident was just too horrific," Cespedes said. "He suffered an ankle injury. He was treated," and later booked.

The incident began early Saturday morning after Ontario police received a call about a woman who was being threatened by her former boyfriend.

The suspect threatened the use of a handgun and threatened her life, according to a statement from the Montclair Police Department.

The suspect was identified as Louis Lazalde of Whittier.

Ontario police set up surveillance at the woman's house and spotted a white Dodge Durango that drove by the front of the residence several times in a short period of time. The Durango matched the description given to police by the victim.

Lazalde fled around 4:50 a.m. when Ontario officers attempted to pull him over.

Garcia and his nephew were taken to Montclair Hospital Medical Center where they died. Luis Garcia died at 5:26 a.m. and Jose died at 5:24 a.m., according to a news release from the San Bernardino County Coroner's office.

Lazalde was booked into West Valley Detention Center in` Rancho on suspicion of evading police causing bodily injury/death, participating in a criminal street gang, and making criminal threats, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's booking records.

He is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Rancho Cucamonga Superior Court.

The incident is being investigated by the Montclair Police Department.
