POLICE are calling for public help to find a brown sausage dog after its owner's car was stolen at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Police said the dog’s owners had pulled over to help the victims of a two-car crash at the corner of Rio Vista Boulevard and Dunlop Court at Mermaid Waters about 10am, when the owner’s car was stolen.

The dog, a male dachshund with a white chest, was inside his owner’s car, when the man driving one of the crashed cars jumped inside and fled.

Police said two women involved in the crash were taken to the Gold Coast Hospital for treatment.

The dog’s owners are offering a $1000 reward for their pet’s return.

The owner’s car is a champagne-coloured 2001 Mitsubishi Magna with Queensland registration 776HMI.

Police asked anyone with information to contact the Broadbeach Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
